Was this note on the outside of the box or did you have to open the box to
find out that it was OK to open the box?

Maybe the police would have to leave a note in the box that says, the box was found and examined and dangerous contents were found in the box (jsut in case the finder wouldn't discover that for themselves).

To clarify about the Fort Hill box, it's a geocache hybrid and in an
ammo box so it looked like it could contain something dangerous.

Well, obviously some noxer found it and reported it to the police,
which they in turn 'investigated' the 'suspicious package' (9/11 and
all that). Being (I think!) good sports about it they investigated
the report and returned it to its proper place instead of removing
it. They were also kind enough to give notice to all those
unsuspecting noxers who are brave enough to open it that it is safe
to open .. LOL!!!. Maybe there are some 'boys in blue' that are
boxers themselves!

I give them credit for respecting the hobby no matter how it is
disguised!

an eight page racist diatribe in the logbook,
advocating violence against certain races, cultures
and entire countries, with the goal of eliminating
them and leaving this country for his/her PURE race.
I couldn't read the whole thing-I just couldn't
stomach it. They referred to themself as one of "the
true patriots."

There is a box here in CT that has been found by a noxer. He apparantly
really likes the spot, because every time he's up there he finds the box again and
writes another entry.

"Dragged my girlfriend up this mountain again. She's getting on my nerves.
I may push her off."

"Girlfriend still alive, but this time she's rather annoyed with me..."

Something to that effect. I found it a year ago, so it's fuzzy in my mind.

There are always jerks and idiots in the world and the attention they
get is what they desire. As much as I would like to meet up on the
path with the a$$ that wrote those comments, its still not worth the
effort and trouble to be dramatic about it.

Don't give the little whiners the attention they so desperately want.

I suggest: Remove that page from the log and go on.

Oh, yeah. There was also an entry in a box in Lebanon that said, "Hello from
the State Police!" Apparantly some local noxers saw people in the cemetery
and called the cops. When the police officer came out, they explained boxing
to him and he realized that they weren't harming anything. He signed in. :)

I'm not sure. I do know that another local boxer was approached by one in
uniform while she was stamping in. When asked, "what are you doing?" the
response was "just coloring." Maybe this was a missed opportunity for an
exchange. We'll probably never know for sure. At any rate, this officer
was keeping the trail safe (wink, wink). ~speedsquare
